The context

The Swiss motorcycle market counts roughly 750,000 registered vehicles. These motorcycles ride an average of 30 days per year. The rest of the time, they sleep in a garage. The shared-use potential is massive.

The platform lets owners monetise their machine on idle days, and lets riders find an available motorcycle near them. No physical intermediary, real insurance, and a properly framed payment.

The challenge

Launching a marketplace in a mobility market means solving four problems in parallel.

First problem: trust. An owner hands a CHF 12,000 machine to a stranger. How do you frame that?

Second problem: insurance. A rented motorcycle isn’t covered by default. How do you guarantee valid coverage for the rental period, without asking the rider to sign a separate contract?

Third problem: payment. Funds move between rider, owner, and platform, with a deposit held and released under precise conditions. How do you prevent fraud and guarantee refunds?

Fourth problem: liquidity. A marketplace only works if supply and demand find each other. How do you balance both sides in a seasonal market?

Our approach

The platform is built on three principles.

Trust as the core product. Every owner and rider profile is verified at sign-up: identity document, valid motorcycle licence, history. A trust score is displayed publicly. First rentals are framed by a higher deposit, then the score builds up.

Insurance embedded at the API level. A partnership with a Swiss insurer specialised in mobility covers the motorcycle for the rental period. Coverage activates automatically at booking time, managed through the API, with no action required from the rider. The cost is built into the displayed price.

Multi-party payments. Stripe Connect handles the three-way flows: deposit held on the rider’s side, rental fees split between owner and platform, automatic deposit release within 48 hours of the motorcycle’s return. No manual handling, no disputes over funds.

The result

A bilingual FR/EN platform, launched in Lausanne, progressively extended to Geneva, Basel, and Zurich. Lighthouse performance of 98/100 on mobile (where most of the traffic is). Organic traffic built over 9 months on queries like “rent motorcycle Geneva”, “peer-to-peer motorcycle rental Switzerland”, and variants.

What we keep

A marketplace doesn’t stand on its technology. It stands on its trust. Everything else in the product must be optimised so that trust settles in within seconds: verified photos, confirmed identity, transparent deposit, insurance pre-validated at the door.

A marketplace is won at the edges of the product first, not at the centre.
