SEO copywriter in Switzerland: what it costs, how to choose

SEO copywriting rates in Switzerland range from CHF 0.05 to CHF 1.50 per word, for what looks like the same service. The real market prices for 2026 and five selection criteria show how to tell good writers from bad ones.

The SEO copywriting market in Switzerland

Demand for SEO copywriters in Switzerland has exploded since 2023, as content SEO has become standard practice among SMEs. Yet the market remains opaque: there is no price benchmark, quality varies, and the line between “web writer”, “SEO writer”, “copywriter” and “content marketer” is blurred.

Four profiles of writers share this market, at very different prices, and five criteria help you choose between them.

The 4 profiles of SEO copywriter

Profile 1: Offshore writer (Bangladesh, Morocco, Madagascar)

Rate: CHF 0.02 to CHF 0.08 per word

How they work: platforms such as Upwork, Fiverr or Iwriter. They often write in English and translate into French with DeepL, or directly with ChatGPT. High volume, variable quality.

For whom: very high-volume projects (hundreds of articles) with a low quality bar. Swiss SMEs should avoid them for their corporate site.

Risks: thin content (little depth), not adapted to the Swiss context (American references, unsuitable examples from France), and sometimes liable to be penalised by Google’s Helpful Content Update.

Profile 2: French writer outside Switzerland (Paris, provincial France)

Rate: CHF 0.08 to CHF 0.20 per word

How they work: freelancers based in France, on platforms such as Malt or Codeur.com. Good French, a good grasp of SEO, but no in-depth knowledge of the Swiss market (competitors, business context, Swiss franc specifics, local references).

For whom: generic articles that do not depend on the Swiss context (“How to optimise your newsletter”, “SEO guide 2026”).

Limits: for articles targeting the Swiss market (“website price Switzerland”, “SEO agency Switzerland”), a writer based in France will miss the local context.

Profile 3: Senior Swiss writer

Rate: CHF 0.30 to CHF 0.80 per word

How they work: freelancers based in Switzerland, with 5+ years of experience in digital marketing and detailed knowledge of Swiss markets. You can find them through LinkedIn, recommendations or specialised platforms in French-speaking Switzerland.

For whom: Swiss corporate sites, B2B content that speaks to Swiss decision-makers, SEO articles targeting the French-speaking Swiss market.

Volume: 2 to 4 quality articles a week, working at 80%. Beyond that, the writer is at full capacity.

Profile 4: SEO copywriting agency

Rate: CHF 0.40 to CHF 1.50 per word for the full service (research + writing + revision + optimisation)

How they work: an in-house team with a writer, an editor and an SEO specialist. A structured process. Follows the overall SEO strategy.

For whom: SMEs with a budget and a need for a regular volume (8 to 12 articles/month) that do not want to manage several freelancers.

Cost per article compared

For a standard 1,500-word SEO article:

ProfileCost per articleTurnaroundTypical quality
OffshoreCHF 752 to 5 daysPoor, to be avoided
FranceCHF 1804 to 7 daysAverage
Senior SwissCHF 6005 to 10 daysGood to excellent
Voren agencyCHF 149 per article (pack of 3 or 5)7 to 14 daysExcellent, calibrated for SEO

The price gap is tenfold between offshore and a senior agency, for deliverables that often have nothing in common.

Criteria for choosing an SEO copywriter

Criterion 1: Recent samples

Ask for 2 or 3 samples of recent articles (from the last 12 months) published on client sites, leaving aside school projects and unpublished portfolio extracts.

If the writer declines (because of an NDA), ask for at least one unpublished sample on a verifiable subject.

Criterion 2: Subject knowledge or research ability

An SEO copywriter working on a technical subject (IT, medicine, finance) must either have prior expertise or show they can research it seriously.

Test: “Here is a brief on Stripe Connect. Can you tell me what you don’t know and how you plan to research it?”

An honest answer (“I don’t know it, I’ll go through the Stripe docs + 5 specialist articles”) is better than a falsely confident one.

Criterion 3: A real understanding of SEO

Test question: “How would you structure an article targeting ‘SEO agency Lausanne’?”

A good answer:

  • H1 with the keyword
  • H2/H3 hierarchy
  • Related semantic keywords (LSI keywords)
  • Internal links to service pages
  • TL;DR or a structured intro
  • Schema.org Article
  • 1,500+ words minimum

A bad answer: “I put the keyword in the article 8 times”. That practice has been obsolete since 2018.

Criterion 4: Delivery speed

For 1 article of 1,500 words:

  • Established writer: 4 to 8 hours of actual work
  • Writing spread over 5 to 7 calendar days (research, writing, revision, finalisation)

If you are promised 24 hours for a specialist article, be suspicious. It is either recycled existing content or rushed work.

Criterion 5: The ability to suggest as well as execute

A good senior writer proposes angles, suggests alternative H2s and points out gaps in your brief. A mediocre writer follows the brief word for word without thinking.

Test: hand over a deliberately incomplete brief and see whether the writer asks questions or returns an average article without digging deeper.

Typical 2026 rates in Switzerland

For reference, here are the target rates observed on the French-speaking Swiss market in June 2026:

Type of contentSenior writerAgency
SEO article, 1,500 wordsCHF 400 to 600CHF 700 to 1,100
Pillar article, 2,500 wordsCHF 700 to 1,200CHF 1,500 to 2,500
Service page, 1,800 wordsCHF 500 to 800CHF 900 to 1,400
Newsletter, 500 wordsCHF 150 to 250CHF 300 to 500
LinkedIn post, 200 wordsCHF 80 to 150CHF 150 to 300
Brand book copy, 30 pagesCHF 3,500 to 6,000CHF 8,000 to 15,000

Common mistakes made by Swiss SMEs

Mistake 1: Choosing on price alone. A CHF 75 article never ranks: it is disposable content.

Mistake 2: A verbal or overly short brief. The writer cannot guess: a structured brief, written upfront, produces an aligned deliverable.

Mistake 3: No revision round. A first draft is rarely perfect. Include 1 revision round in the quote.

Mistake 4: Wanting a writer who is both an expert and a generalist. No writer can be an expert in SEO, design, finance and marketing at once. Choose according to your main subject.

Mistake 5: Not measuring the impact. The articles produced need to rank. Track positions, impressions and clicks in Search Console at 3 and 6 months after publication.
