Why Schema.org matters more in 2026
Schema.org is an HTML markup vocabulary that lets you structure the information on your page for search engines. Instead of displaying “Voren Sàrl in Saint-Gingolph” as plain text, you can tell Google: “this is an organisation, its name is Voren Sàrl, its address is Quai Laval 7, and here is its phone number”.
Three changes since 2024 have made Schema.org essential.
AI Overviews integration. When Google generates an AI answer at the top of the results, it favours sources with clean structured data. Without schema.org, you are not cited in AI Overviews.
Rich snippets dominate the SERPs. Pages with rich snippets (stars, prices, expandable FAQs) have a CTR 30 to 50% higher than standard results. Schema.org is required to get them.
The local pack depends on LocalBusiness. To appear in Google’s local pack (the block with 3 listings on location-based searches), you need a Google Business Profile and consistent LocalBusiness schema on your site.
For a Swiss SME in 2026, 7 Schema.org markup types are a priority.
Format: JSON-LD recommended
Schema.org can be implemented in 3 formats: Microdata (HTML attributes), RDFa, JSON-LD. Google has explicitly recommended JSON-LD since 2015. It is the only format to use in 2026.
JSON-LD goes in a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag in the <head> of your page, without touching the visible HTML. Cleaner, and easier to maintain.
A basic example:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Organization",
"name": "Voren Sàrl",
"url": "https://voren.ch"
}
</script>
Markup 1: Organization (all pages, in the global head)
The foundation of your entity signal. Put it on every page, ideally in the global layout.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Organization",
"@id": "https://voren.ch/#organization",
"name": "Voren Sàrl",
"url": "https://voren.ch",
"logo": "https://voren.ch/logo.png",
"email": "contact@voren.ch",
"telephone": "+41XXXXXXXXX",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "Quai Laval 7",
"postalCode": "1898",
"addressLocality": "Saint-Gingolph",
"addressCountry": "CH"
},
"sameAs": [
"https://www.linkedin.com/company/voren-sarl"
]
}
The @id with a stable URL (e.g. https://voren.ch/#organization) lets you reference this Organization from other schemas. Handy for entity consistency.
Markup 2: LocalBusiness (if you have a local presence)
A subtype of Organization specialised for businesses with a physical location. More precise for local SEO.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "ProfessionalService",
"name": "Voren Sàrl",
"image": "https://voren.ch/og-image.png",
"telephone": "+41XXXXXXXXX",
"address": { ... },
"geo": {
"@type": "GeoCoordinates",
"latitude": 46.391,
"longitude": 6.802
},
"openingHoursSpecification": [{
"@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
"dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"],
"opens": "09:00",
"closes": "18:00"
}],
"priceRange": "CHF X,XXX - CHF XX,XXX",
"areaServed": ["French-speaking Switzerland", "Geneva", "Lausanne", "Valais", "Vaud"]
}
Useful subtypes: ProfessionalService (professional services), Restaurant, Store (retail), Hotel, Dentist, etc. See https://schema.org/LocalBusiness for the full list.
Markup 3: Service (on every service page)
For pages that present a specific service.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Service",
"name": "SEO agency Switzerland",
"provider": { "@id": "https://voren.ch/#organization" },
"areaServed": "Switzerland",
"description": "Voren is a multilingual SEO agency in French-speaking Switzerland, with a contractual commitment on execution.",
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"priceCurrency": "CHF",
"price": "XXXX",
"priceSpecification": {
"@type": "PriceSpecification",
"minPrice": "XXXX",
"maxPrice": "YYYY",
"priceCurrency": "CHF"
}
}
}
provider references your Organization via @id. offers lets the price range appear in the SERPs.
Markup 4: Article (on every blog article)
For editorial articles. Enables rich snippets in Google Discover and Google News.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Article",
"headline": "Schema.org for Swiss SMEs: the markup that matters in 2026",
"image": "https://voren.ch/journal/schema-org-cover.png",
"datePublished": "2026-07-17T08:00:00+02:00",
"dateModified": "2026-07-17T08:00:00+02:00",
"author": {
"@type": "Organization",
"name": "Voren Sàrl",
"@id": "https://voren.ch/#organization"
},
"publisher": { "@id": "https://voren.ch/#organization" },
"mainEntityOfPage": "https://voren.ch/journal/schema-org-pme-suisse-2026/"
}
Markup 5: BreadcrumbList (on all deeper pages)
Improves how the breadcrumb trail is displayed in Google and helps AI understand your site’s hierarchy.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "BreadcrumbList",
"itemListElement": [
{
"@type": "ListItem",
"position": 1,
"name": "Home",
"item": "https://voren.ch/"
},
{
"@type": "ListItem",
"position": 2,
"name": "Journal",
"item": "https://voren.ch/journal/"
},
{
"@type": "ListItem",
"position": 3,
"name": "Schema.org for Swiss SMEs"
}
]
}
Markup 6: FAQPage (on pages with an FAQ)
Enables expandable FAQs directly in Google’s SERPs. A very high impact on CTR.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "FAQPage",
"mainEntity": [{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "Why is Schema.org important in 2026?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "Schema.org lets search engines understand the structure of your content and enables rich snippets..."
}
}, {
"@type": "Question",
"name": "Which Schema.org format should you use?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "Google recommends JSON-LD..."
}
}]
}
Markup 7: Product / Offer (on e-commerce pages)
For e-commerce product pages. Enables stars, price and availability in Google Shopping and the SERPs.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Product",
"name": "Voren cap",
"image": "https://voren.ch/products/cap.jpg",
"description": "Official Voren cap in organic cotton.",
"sku": "CAP-001",
"brand": { "@type": "Brand", "name": "Voren" },
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"url": "https://voren.ch/shop/cap",
"priceCurrency": "CHF",
"price": "35",
"availability": "https://schema.org/InStock"
},
"aggregateRating": {
"@type": "AggregateRating",
"ratingValue": "4.7",
"reviewCount": "23"
}
}

Common mistakes
Mistake 1 · Schema inconsistent with the visible content. If your Schema says “rated 4.8 stars from 200 reviews” but the page does not show those reviews, Google considers it spam and may penalise you.
Mistake 2 · Schema on non-public pages. Putting Schema on noindex pages or on pages blocked by robots.txt is pointless. Focus the effort on visible pages.
Mistake 3 · Schema duplicated between Organization and LocalBusiness. Choose a single type at the root. Double schema confuses Google.
Mistake 4 · priceRange instead of priceSpecification. priceRange is a free string (“CHF X,XXX - CHF XX,XXX”), priceSpecification is structured (minPrice/maxPrice). Prefer priceSpecification, which Google makes more use of.
Mistake 5 · No update when the content changes. If you change your prices but not your Schema, you are publishing false information. Keep the two in sync, every time.
What Voren does
Every Voren site includes by default:
- Organization + LocalBusiness ProfessionalService in the global layout
- Service + Offer on every service page
- Article + BreadcrumbList on every journal article
- FAQPage on pages with an FAQ (services, articles)
- Product + Offer on online shops (generated automatically from the catalogue)
An Astro helper that reads the central configuration generates it all automatically: nothing is duplicated or forgotten, and the Schema stays in sync with the prices.
