Black Friday Switzerland 2026: preparing your online shop without missing a thing
Black Friday 2026 falls on 27 November, and Swiss purchases on that day will exceed CHF 600 million. For your online shop to get its share, you need to prepare it from September.

Why this guide comes out in September, not November
Black Friday is a ramp-up over 4 weeks, half of it technical and half marketing. Preparing your online shop in November is too late: the useful window opens in September.
In 2025, Swiss online retailers who planned from September saw their Black Friday revenue grow by 35% on average. Those who improvised in November experienced sites going down under the load, carts abandoned because TWINT was badly configured, and stock sold out in 3 hours on promotions with no logistics prepared. What separates the two groups is the rigour of their preparation.
Preparation plays out on five fronts: technology, payments, logistics, marketing, after-sales. This guide is written for Swiss SMEs with annual e-commerce revenue between CHF 100,000 and 5 million. Above that, you probably have a dedicated team. Below it, Black Friday is a chance to double your annual revenue in a single week.
2026 calendar: key dates to remember
- Friday 27 November 2026: official Black Friday
- Monday 30 November 2026: Cyber Monday
- 23 to 29 November: Black Week (most merchants extend their promotions over 7 days)
- From 17 November: warm-up campaigns (teasers, VIP lists)
- By 15 October: technical and logistics preparation completed
- By 15 September: audit, action plan, choice of promotions
If you are reading this in September, you are right in the useful window. In October, you are still on time, but with no margin for error. In November, focus on the bare minimum and push the rest back to 2027.
Block 1: Technical preparation (weeks 1 to 3)
Stress-testing your infrastructure
Your site will receive 5 to 15 times your baseline traffic for 48 hours. If your infrastructure is not sized to absorb that peak, you go down. A shop that goes down during Black Friday typically loses between 30% and 80% of its revenue potential.
Action: order a stress test from your technical provider or run one with a tool (k6, Loader.io, BlazeMeter). Target: your site must handle 1,000 simultaneous sessions reading and 100 simultaneous sessions writing (cart, checkout), with a response time < 2 seconds. If the test fails, you have 6 weeks to upgrade.
If you are on Shopify, you do not need to worry about it (their infrastructure holds the load natively). If you are on WordPress / WooCommerce or a custom build, it is critical. At Voren, we prepare for the load increase 1 month before Black Friday. For the shops we maintain, uptime on Black Friday 2025 was 100%.
Backups and rollback plan
In the event of a major technical incident during Black Friday (configuration error, corrupted database, failed deployment), you must be able to restore within 15 minutes at most. Action: check that your backups run at least daily, that restoring has been tested in the last 6 months, and that you have a documented plan for switching to degraded mode (for example: showing a static page with a contact email while the restore runs).
Mobile Lighthouse > 90
Black Friday traffic is at least 70% mobile. If your mobile Lighthouse score is below 90, you lose carts to slowness. Action: a full Lighthouse audit, image optimisation (WebP / AVIF), Brotli compression switched on, correct lazy loading, cleanly bundled JavaScript.
Tracking and analytics in working order
If Google Analytics or Plausible is badly configured, you will not know afterwards what worked. Action: check that checkout events are tracked, that the conversion funnel can be measured and that abandoned carts can be identified. Prepare a real-time dashboard for the 48 hours (Google Looker Studio or equivalent).
Block 2: Swiss payments (weeks 2 to 4)
TWINT is a must in 2026
In French-speaking Switzerland, 40% of mobile e-commerce payments go through TWINT in 2026. A shop without TWINT in Switzerland loses 30 to 40% of mobile carts.
Action: if TWINT is not enabled on your shop, set it up now. On Shopify, it is an official plugin (~CHF 10 / month). On WooCommerce, several gateways are available (Datatrans, Wallee, Saferpay). On a custom build, integrate TWINT directly through its REST API.
Test: place a complete order with TWINT from your phone, and check that the flow is smooth and that the webhook confirms the payment.
Klarna and paying in 3 instalments
Klarna and instalment payments (3 interest-free instalments) increase the average order value by 30 to 50% on purchases > CHF 200. For Black Friday, when order values are often high, the effect counts all the more.
Action: integrate Klarna or a Swiss equivalent (Cembra Pay) if your average catalogue price is > CHF 150.
PostFinance for B2B
If your customers include businesses, or purchases paid by invoice, PostFinance or a business bank transfer is expected. Action: make sure the “pay by invoice” option is available to verified customers.
Payment security
Fraudsters target shops during Black Friday because the volume hides the fraudulent transactions. Action: make 3D Secure mandatory on payments > CHF 200, configure your anti-fraud rules (limits per IP, per card, per email address) and monitor unusual transactions in real time.
Block 3: Logistics and stock (weeks 3 to 4)
Stock forecasting
The basic calculation: plan for 3 to 5 times your average daily sales volume on the products you put on Black Friday promotion. If you sell 10 units of a product a day, plan for 30 to 50 units for Black Friday. If you fall short, you will be out of stock within 3 hours, which frustrates customers and kills conversion across the rest of your catalogue.
If you cannot hold the stock, do not put the product on promotion. Sell products with a wider margin and comfortable stock levels instead.
Shipping logistics
Black Friday saturates Swiss Post between late November and mid-December. Usual delivery times (1 or 2 days) can stretch to 5 or even 10 days at the peaks. Action:
- State the real delivery times clearly on your product pages and at checkout
- Negotiate a dedicated daily collection slot with Swiss Post in advance for November and December
- If you use DHL or UPS for international shipping, check their capacity over the period
- Prepare your shipping labels in advance (batch printing morning and evening)
Extended returns policy
Black Friday shoppers expect to be able to return items easily. A strict returns policy kills your conversion rate. Action: extend your returns period to 60 days (instead of 30) for Black Friday purchases, display it prominently and simplify the returns form.
Block 4: Marketing and communication (weeks 4 to 6)
Email warm-up
Your core customers (your newsletter subscribers) should hear about it in advance. Action:
- 16 November: teaser email “Something is coming on 27 November”
- 24 November: VIP email with pre-sale access (24 to 48 hours before the general public)
- 26 November, evening: reminder email, the day before
- 27 November, morning: launch email
- 29 November, evening: email for last-minute purchases
Format: short, focused on the product, a single CTA. Avoid multiple banners, which dilute the message.
SEO and organic traffic
If you have a blog or editorial pages, the ideal is to publish a guide article, “Christmas gift ideas 2026”, that includes your products on promotion. This article targets a seasonal keyword (1,000 to 5,000 searches a month in French-speaking Switzerland for “idée cadeau noël”, French for Christmas gift idea) and drives organic traffic during Black Week.
Action: publish the article before 15 November so that it has time to rank.
Social media and paid ads
If you run paid campaigns (Google Ads, Meta Ads), increase your daily budgets by a factor of 3 to 5 for Black Friday week. The CPC goes up because everyone is bidding, but the conversion rate more than makes up for it.
If you do not run paid campaigns, focus on LinkedIn (B2B) and Instagram (B2C lifestyle). A simple post on the morning of Black Friday with a clear offer converts better than a complex campaign.
Single promo code vs whole catalogue on promotion
Two opposite strategies:
- Catalogue on promotion: your whole catalogue at -20%, -30%, -40%. Simple to communicate, simple for customers to understand. Your overall margin takes the hit.
- Targeted promo code: no discount displayed by default, but a BLACKFRIDAY26 code that gives -20%. It lets you track precisely what comes from Black Friday, without weighing on how customers perceive your brand’s prices.
Our recommendation for Swiss SMEs: a targeted promo code, easier to control and less costly in margin. If you want to clear ageing stock, put the catalogue on promotion instead.
Block 5: After-sales (weeks 5 to 8)
Customer service ready
Black Friday generates 3 to 5 times more customer service requests than the baseline. If you handle support on your own, you will drown. Action:
- Prepare 10 standard FAQs (delayed delivery, promo code not working, size unavailable, etc.) as pre-written replies
- Set up an email auto-reply explaining delivery times and policies during Black Week
- If possible, add a temporary assistant (a freelance virtual assistant) for weeks 48 and 49
Recovering abandoned carts
The cart abandonment rate on Black Friday is ~75% (vs ~70% normally). Action: your abandoned-cart email sequence must be aggressive:
- 1 hour after abandonment: reminder email
- 6 hours after: email with a small promo code (-5%)
- 24 hours after: final reminder email
According to Klaviyo (2025), a good reminder sequence recovers 8 to 15% of abandoned carts. On Black Friday, with volume × 5, that is significant.
Measurement and review
On 1 December, carry out a full review:
- Total revenue and revenue by category
- Overall conversion rate and conversion rate by source (organic, email, paid, social)
- Average order value
- Estimated return rate
- Top-selling products
- Technical lessons (downtime, slowdowns, bugs)
This structured review is what prepares you for 2027.
Common mistakes to avoid
Promotion without logistics. Selling 500 units of a product you have 50 of in stock = a customer service disaster + refunds + a damaged image. Only put on promotion what you can deliver.
Changing the site the day before. Any change to the site, the cart or the checkout must be made before 24 November (4 days before). After that, code freeze. A failed deployment on the morning of Black Friday can wipe out the day.
Misleading communication. Announcing “-50%” on products whose price you raised the day before gets spotted by price comparison sites and the media. It costs you more in reputation than it brings in revenue.
A single email blast. Sending a single Black Friday email on the morning of 27 November to 10,000 subscribers is less effective than a segmented sequence over 5 days. Prepare your flow.
Forgetting TWINT. For the 4th time in this article: TWINT is a must. Without it, you lose half of your mobile traffic from French-speaking Switzerland. Switch TWINT on and test a TWINT order from your phone.
Recommended tools
- Stress test: k6.io (free, open source) or Loader.io (free up to 10,000 clients)
- Email marketing: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Brevo. For Swiss SMEs, Brevo offers good value for money, with servers in the EU.
- Tracking: Plausible or GA4. For the latter, configure the checkout events in advance.
- Customer service: Crisp (based in Nantes, GDPR-friendly) or Front for teams with a shared inbox.
- Anti-fraud: Stripe Radar, included in Stripe; Datatrans Fraud Tools for Datatrans customers.
And if you are starting your online shop now
If you do not have an online shop yet, or if your current shop cannot take the Black Friday load, the 2026 window has passed for you. Building an online shop that can absorb Black Friday takes 8 to 12 weeks at least. Starting in September to deliver at the end of November is technically feasible, but risky.
Our recommendation: prepare for 2027. Start a serious new e-commerce project between January and May 2027, so that it is ready 4 months ahead of Black Friday 2027. That is the right timing for a redesign or a launch.
